much harder to replicate some crazy tones and studio tricks in software. I just got my hands on some Shure SM57s not too long ago and have been spending a bunch of time micing up my setup and playing around with the natural space and reverb of different areas in my house. You can also invest in mics to get a better "live" sounding guitar track.

It's not as comprehensive as most third party modeling software, but between those and some creativity when it comes to effects you can get some unique tones with no extra hassle (like spending more money on software unless you want specific models, like personally so much of my tone revolves around my Vox AC15, big muffs, and memory man, that i prefer having some kind of analog to those specific pieces of gear) Between Amp, Cabinet, and Pedal you can get some decent tones if you take the time to dial it in. there's also loads of others out there to try and play around with to find what suits your needs the best.Īlso, don't discredit stock ableton plugins. What sold me to it was that it's also a standalone application as well as a VST for use in any DAW, so i don't have to work through ableton if i just want to noodle around and maybe design some presets or experiment with sound, and what i do come up with can be brought up when i'm ready to record. Personally i use Guitar Rig from native Instruments, has a decent selection of amps, cabinets, and effects modeled after popular gear across a wide variety of music. There are a lot of modeling VSTs out there to help you get bigger and better tone from direct recording.
